What is the Discount Calculator?

Four modes: % Off — enter the original price and discount %, get the sale price and savings. Use the quick-pick buttons for common discount amounts. Find Original — know the sale price and discount %, reverse-calculate the original. What % Off? — enter both prices to find the discount percentage. Tip — calculate a restaurant tip and split between people.

The Advanced panel adds sales tax on top of the discounted price, giving you the true out-of-pocket total including tax.

Tips & Best Practices

Use Ctrl+Enter to calculate without clicking. Use Ctrl+Shift+C to copy the result. Press Esc to clear. Quick-pick buttons in % Off mode let you jump to common discounts without typing. The Advanced panel adds sales tax to the discounted price — enter your local rate for the true out-of-pocket cost. For stacking discounts, run two calculations: apply the first discount, then use the result as the "original price" for the second.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I calculate a percent-off discount?

Sale price = original × (1 − discount/100). Amount saved = original × discount/100. E.g., 20% off $100 = $80 sale price, $20 saved.

How do I find the original price?

Original = sale price ÷ (1 − discount/100). If the sale price is $80 after 20% off, the original was $80 ÷ 0.8 = $100.

How do I add sales tax to a discounted price?

Open Advanced and enter the tax rate. The calculator applies tax to the post-discount price to show the total out-of-pocket cost.
